Eco-organization Brightmark for waste disposal in Los Angeles and its values

The main purpose of this company is to contribute to waste disposal on a global scale. Advanced technologies and the latest innovations help Brightmark in achieving this goal. Los Angeles Name tells more about the city’s eco-organization.

Foundation of Brightmark

According to the founder and CEO of the eco-organization Bob Powell, the main goal of the company is a world without waste. This became the purpose of the eco-organization. The founder is satisfied with current achievements and is excited about future opportunities.

Eco-organization unites the environmentally conscious leaders and business professionals for whom the environment is in the first place.

The chronology of the establishment and development of the company is as follows:

  1. Brightmark was founded in Sumter, South Carolina in 2016-2018. During this period, the first project on Internet portals on the use of biogas for the production of electricity was launched. An important stage in the company’s development was the acquisition of plastics renewal technology from RES Polyflow.
  2. The years 2019-2021 were marked by the first steps of the Ashley Circularity Center. In addition, the first online launch of 30 renewable natural gas circulation centers in the US took place.
  3. Since 2022, the eco-organization has been engaged in establishing and strengthening partnerships with the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. This contributes to more active recycling of plastic and minimizes the risk of plastic entering landfills and water spaces.

Partnership with the National Marine Sanctuary

Let’s discover more about the marine plastic renewal partnership because this was the first such collaboration. The founder and the team of the eco-organization Brightmark are convinced that solving a big problem starts with small steps. The Reimagine Waste mission helps in it.

The National Marine Sanctuary in Florida has plastic buoys and the waste they don’t want sent to landfill. Brightmark benefits inspire hope for cleaner oceans through:

  • effective and sustainable reduction of marine plastic pollution
  • a new and first-of-its-kind plastic renewal program on the territory of buoys and lower lines. It means cleaning the ocean of the plastic that ends up in the landfill
  • circular solutions, i.e. not only the collection of marine waste, which is difficult to process. The Brightmark solution involves the transformation of marine waste into new plastic products. All this helps in maintaining the water purity.

Circular ecological model

Rethinking and transforming plastic waste into new plastic products is an approach to circulation. The centers of Brightmark company specialize in the implementation of cyclical solutions for the world’s most urgent waste disposal problems.

In general, the concept of a circular ecological model is interpreted as a process or a certain economic system. Its main focus is the reuse and elimination of waste. Thanks to this method, it is possible to achieve sustainability and extend the service life of important natural resources for humanity.

Eco-organization centers have modern equipment, which processes waste quickly and efficiently. Brightmark centers are also designed to be flexible and adaptable to changing market demands. It is worth highlighting their three main directions:

  1. Dairy industry. The team of eco-organization cooperates with dairy farms and helps them to obtain financial and environmental benefits from the implemented technologies. It is worth noting that the company manages more than 30 centers for the circulation of renewable natural gas in the United States.
  2. Organic. The organization is expanding its portfolio of recycling centers for the disposal of food waste.
  3. Plastic recycling. A common scenario for plastic waste is landfills and incineration. The eco-organization uses a cyclical approach to convert plastic waste into new materials.

Transformation of organic waste into new products

Brightmark centers capture greenhouse gas emissions through anaerobic digestion, turning them into new usable products. It is organized as follows:

  1. The first step is to transport organic waste from landfills to recycling centers.
  2. Digestion comes next. Organic substances are broken down into nutrients, after which they can be reused. This process is controlled and the naturally produced biogas is captured.
  3. Extracted methane from captured biogas is subsequently converted into renewable natural gas. The Brightmark team distributes it through the pipeline. This makes it possible to use it for further production of heat and electricity.
  4. The solid matter that remains after the steps listed above is turned into fertilizer or compost by the employees of the eco-organization. Liquid residues are applied to the ground on the territory of local farms. Another available option is the treatment of residual liquid at local treatment facilities.

Centers of circular ecological models

In October 2020, Brightmark LLC and Chevron U.S.A. Inc. announced the creation of a joint venture called Brightmark RNG Holdings LLC. The company owns centers throughout the United States, specializing in the production and sale of lactic biomethane, a renewable natural gas.

An interesting and important partnership was the collaboration with the Vlot Calf Ranch in Chowchilla, California. The project of anaerobic digestion involves the collection, purification and release of methane from manure into renewable natural gas. This is the first such renewable natural gas in the state of California.

Chevron U.S.A. Inc. is a Californian company that understands the importance of implementing this project.

Goals for 2028

When there are goals, a company has clearly defined guidelines for acting. Eco-organization Brightmark plans the following:

  • reduce CO₂ eq by 4.7 million metric tons
  • remove up to 8.4 million metric tons of plastic from landfills and the environment.

Awards

In 2021, the eco-organization received an award for global sustainability. Business Intelligence Group honored a company with an award due to its significant contribution to the fight against climate change.

Thus, its plastic recycling technology is spreading around the world. The founder of the company is convinced that the solution to the plastic waste crisis lies in rethinking and taking decisive actions regarding the most pressing modern environmental problems.

Recommendations from Brightmark: how to create a world without waste?

The team advises to give preference to biodegradable products for consumption, namely:

  • long-lasting plant-based straws are a more ecological replacement for traditional plastic products
  • plant-based compost bags instead of regular polyethylene bags can be used
  • using paper bags for pet excrement is an eco option.

These are just a few examples. It is worth choosing carefully what we use, giving preference to more ecological alternatives. This is a movement towards a conscious lifestyle.
