Challenging conventional marketing for plant-based foods

The Wholly Veggie brand was founded in 2016 in Toronto, Canada, but gained recognition due to the innovation of its employees based in Los Angeles. Since then,  the company has changed how Americans perceive the frozen plant-based food industry. Due to the company’s efforts, vegetables are both appealing and tasty. The brand has established itself as a leader in this industry, offering a diverse array of products, including vegetable mozzarella sticks, cauliflower wings and various vegetable appetizers.

The brand’s advertising campaign, featuring the catchy phrase ‘Haha, You Just Ate Vegetables,’ played a significant role in boosting its popularity.

The independent creative agency Party Land, located in Los Angeles, has developed a surprising advertisement promoting healthy eating. The commercial features the song ‘Haha You Just Ate Vegetables’ and encourages families to alter their typical eating habits.

What’s intriguing is that this marks the first project for this company by a Los Angeles agency known for crafting engaging advertising campaigns. For instance, take the startup water brand Liquid Death as an example. Even with the geographical distance, the founders of Liquid Death were drawn to the unique perspective and creative vision offered by the Los Angeles agency.

The commercial features several fun episodes. It shows a family cleverly getting their kids to eat vegetables by offering tasty plant-based snacks from Wholly Veggie. These snacks include cauliflower wings, mozzarella-style sticks and sweet potato popcorn. Meanwhile, the kids who usually dislike vegetables are enjoying these snacks without realizing their true nature.

The scene then shifts to the delighted parents revealing the truth behind the snacks.

The victory song is sung by the creative team at the advertising agency, specifically Matt Heath and Matt Rogers. That’s how the first episode ends.

The second episode showcases a couple where the man deceives his partner, who avoids vegetables, by offering mozzarella-style sticks. In the third episode, the woman indulges in the entire box of specialty potato popcorn late at night.

What these episodes have in common is that the characters nod their heads to the phrases ‘Wholly Veggie’ and ‘You just ate vegetables’.

While creating the commercial, the Party Land team aimed to surprise viewers. They succeeded, as the Wholly Veggie brand distinguished itself in the frozen food market with its unique approach. The advertising campaign truly broke the style of conventional health food marketing.

Wholly Veggie: A new level

The company creates delicious plant-based products that appeal to both adults and kids. Their advertisements are featured on social and digital platforms and are aired in key markets across the United States and Canada.

The brand’s origin story is quite interesting as well. Wholly Veggie was founded by two ex-executives from the organic meat industry. John Bonnell and David Gaucher recognized the need for a plant-based snack concept and decided it was the perfect time to make it happen.

The founders were motivated by the chance to promote vegetable consumption among as many people as they could. They also tackled the challenge of making vegetable snacks delicious and visually appealing. As stated by John Bonnell and David Gaucher, the company’s mission is to contribute to the development of a more sustainable food system.

The founders are making plant-based healthy food accessible to everyone. to everyone. The company’s team doesn’t create products in a lab or provide options made from synthetic proteins. Instead, customers enjoy high-quality vegetables that are expertly prepared by a chef with basic seasonings and unique recipes.
